Grading in Class
It is Mr. Loftus’ belief that students should be evaluated on their whole person, and not just a small part of their talents. Assessment is a good thing: it gives you a snapshot of the abilities and accomplishments of your student. In our class, this assessment incorporates the entire person’s abilities in the physical education field.
The final grade is the sum of three different components:
- Psycho-motor (30%)
This refers to all activities with a physical aspect: running, push-ups, stretching & flexibility, etc… - Cognitive (20%)
This is any written assignment that is turned in. - Affective (50%)
This relates to the student’s character. How well do they cooperate with others? How well do they participate in class? Do they follow teacher instruction and class rules?
The weight of each of these components reflects a blend of the value society requires (working well with others), the purposes of the content of this class (physical skills), and the values I hold as a teacher (hard work).
All grades are based upon these percentages.
