In the interest of making sure everyone is equal, some people in Maine have lost their minds.

Equality seems to be one of the bigger issues of today’s liberals. That and tolerance. If someone is treated differently from someone else, a cry of “It’s not fair!” echoes forth. Without a biblical worldview, people make foolish decisions.

It is okay to treat people differently, because–without exception–people are different from one another. Treating people the same, regardless of differences, is not equality. It’s foolish.

The bible does teach equality: equality of value. For His own reasons, we are all immensely valuable to God. He chose to die in our place. He has lifted us up to unimaginable value with His act. And yet, He does not treat us, day-to-day, all the same. He recognizes differences between individuals and acts accordingly.

As parents, we do the same. We establish identical rules and expectations for our children. But we treat them differently. God does to. We are all accountable to Him. Sinless perfection is His standard, and we all fall short of this. Only through Christ can we achieve this spotlessness.

Treating us differently does not change our value to Him. After all, He died for all who have believed. On that basis, we are all equal. Equality is not identical-ness.
